Coutts Media / Draw

How much is leaking out of your print run?

Most publishers know their total circulation. Almost none know what a single copy earns at a single outlet. Enter your numbers — the leak is paper, print and distribution spent on copies nobody reads.

How this is calculated

Paper weight per copy = (pages ÷ 2) × 0.21964 m² per tabloid sheet × gsm ÷ 1000, increased by spoilage. Assumes a 289 × 380 mm tabloid page and that "pages" means printed pages, not sheets. Cost per copy = newsprint + printing + distribution. Annual leak = copies a year × waste rate × cost per copy. Recoverable = leak × your recovery share — the portion an audit and reallocation typically recovers, not the whole leak. Return on Draw = recoverable ÷ (subscription × 12).

Defaults are South African planning assumptions, not audited industry averages. The point of the audit is to replace them with your invoices.

What this is not: a quote, a forecast or a guarantee. It is a sizing model built entirely from the assumptions you entered. An audit replaces those assumptions with your own dispatch, returns and invoice records.
